There are a number of reasons why a business owner might want to perform a business valuation.
- In some cases, it might be a requirement, possibly for a litigation setting or in the gifting of shares.
- If you have a buy-sell agreement and you want to have an agreed-upon value that you look to each year, then a valuation is an absolute best practice.
- Some owners have it done simply because they want to know. You look at your brokerage statements for your liquid investments, so why not know the value of your illiquid investments too?
